Tainted gas prompts major car repairs in N. TX
As many as 20 drivers in Kaufman County have thousands of dollars’ worth of damages to their cars after they filled up with contaminated gas Sunday.
It happened in Talty, at the Exxon Tiger Mart station off I-20 and FM 1641. According to Victron Energy, the gas station supplier, a stage 1 cap, which helps relieve vapor pressure, was discovered missing.
The company says the rainy weather caused water to seep into the storage tank, forcing ethanol to separate from the fuel, making it unusable.
One driver, Natalie Walker, says her car started shaking and came to a screeching halt. She believes it's a miracle no one was hurt.
Drivers say they have to pay repair costs out-of-pocket and wait to be reimbursed.
They don't know when that will be.
The fuel company says all drivers will be taken care of and that an investigation is underway to find out who's responsible.
