Suspected drunk driver causes chain reaction crash in Mesquite

Mesquite police arrested the driver they believe caused a deadly chain-reaction crash that killed one person.

41-year old Jorge Valdez Martinez slammed his SUV into the back of a car, causing the crash on westbound Interstate 30, near Gus Thomasson Road. It happened around midnight Friday.

The 55-year-old driver of the car that was hit by the SUV died from her injuries, police said.

Martinez ran from the scene but was later captured by police.

He appeared to be drunk, police said.
