Substation fire knocks out power in parts of Dallas

The area around Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas was without power for about an hour because of a fire at an Oncor substation.

The two-alarm structure fire in the 8100 block of Walnut Hill Lane was reported before 10 a.m. Tuesday. Officials have not yet released details about what happened.

Several FOX 4 viewers in the area called to say they were in the dark and that traffic lights were not working. A spokesman for the hospital said it has backup generators and was not affected, but most of the surrounding doctors’ offices were.

"It came back on and then about 15 or 20 minutes later it went out again. That time the lights and everything have been out since then. So now I'm trying to figure out or find out how long it will be. Like I said, they said about two hours. We'll just have to see," said Fred Wade, who works in the area.

On its website, Oncor reported about 3,200 customers without power shortly after the fire. It was mostly restored by noon.

DART said the fire did not affect its nearby rail services.
