Stephenville HS grad dies on spring break in Alabama

Alcohol poisoning likely killed a college student from Stephenville while he was vacationing in Alabama for spring break.

Police in Orange Beach, Ala. were still awaiting autopsy results for Brayden Cloverdale, 21. The Texas Tech student was on a week-long vacation in Alabama, where beaches are popular spring break destinations for college students.

Coverdale was found unresponsive at an Orange Beach house on Sunday and he was taken to the hospital, where he died late Sunday. An official cause of death will likely take weeks due to pending toxicology reports.

"Everyone wants to come down and have a nice spring break, and we want them to do that, but at the same time, we want them to be responsible, “Orange Beach Cpl. Richard Springsteen told FOX10 in Alabama. “He was 21-years-old, so this was not an underage drinking thing, he was of age to drink alcohol, but we just want to remind everybody to please be responsible with your drinking,"

Coverdale played football for Tartleton State University before he transferred to Texas Tech. He graduated from Stephenville High School in 2012.

Police said as of now, they don’t plan to press any charges.
