State Fair of Texas crowns grand champion steer for 2018

The State Fair of Texas has crowned its grand champion steer for 2018.

Ashton Floyd, 14, raised Ultra and said it took countless hours of hard work to win the prize.

“it's very difficult to do this. It's very hard job. Like all day long work. Every day,” Floyd said on GoodDay.

Floyd has been working with animals since she was just three-years-old. She said she’s learned a lot.

“Responsibility and how to treat others with respect. How to handle winning and losing, and being a good sportsman,” Floyd said.

Floyd said she was very nervous and had a lot of things running through her mind while waiting to find out the results of the competition. But now she has to get ready for the auction on Friday. Last year’s champion went for $141,000.

“I will be grateful for whatever I get and I'll use it for college,” Floyd said.
