Details surrounding Commander Bauer's murder were still emerging as of early Tuesday evening, but investigators said he was shot at least four times.

Bauer's death comes after a violent weekend for law enforcement officers. A Georgia officer was killed Friday while assisting two deputies serving an arrest warrant. Officer Chase Maddox, 26, of Locust Grove, located just southeast of Atlanta, was shot several times. He did not survive his wounds.

The two Henry County deputies he was assisting were also shot, but were expected to survive.

The gunman died at the scene.

Officer Maddox left behind a wife, who was expecting the couple's second child. She gave birth to that child on Tuesday and is being surrounded by overwhelming support from around the state.
