Pets killed, firefighter hurt in early morning house fire

A Dallas firefighter has serious burns to his hands because of an early morning fire.

Dallas Fire Rescue said the injured firefighter was taken to Parkland Hospital’s burn unit. He is expected to be okay.

The fire started around 4 a.m. at a single-story house on Barnard Boulevard in West Oak Cliff. Two people who were home at the time made it out safely.

Firefighters pulled the family’s five pets from the home. Two cats and one dog died but the firefighters were able to save and treat the other two dogs for smoke inhalation.

It fire appears to have been an electrical fire that started in one of the bedrooms.
