Nothing found at cemetery in search for missing Richardson girl
Richardson police say nothing of interest was found at a cemetery Friday afternoon in the search for a missing 3-year-old girl.
A police tip to the Dallas Police Department led authorities to the Restland Cemetery near the Dallas-Richardson line. But after an extensive search, police say tip was not credible and nothing was found.
3-year-old Sherin Mathews disappeared last weekend after her father, Wesley Mathews, told investigators he sent her outside alone around 3 a.m. Saturday as punishment for not drinking her milk.
Police did not say what exactly they were looking for on the cemetery grounds or what the tip was that led them there. The cemetery is less than two miles from the Mathews home.
The last update police provided was Thursday night when they pleaded for the public’s help to review any possible footage of Wesley’s 2013 maroon Acura MDX between the hours of 4 and 5 a.m. Saturday morning. They said the SUV was missing from the home during that time.
Wesley was arrested for child endangerment but has since bonded out of jail. Sherin’s mother, Sini Mathews, has not been charged with anything, but police say both of the parents are no longer cooperating with the investigation.
A vigil is planned for Sherin Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Mathews home.
