A girl in Denton with a rare blood disorder is finally getting ready for a bone marrow transplant.

Hallie Barnard was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia when she was just a year old. A few years later a group called Hallie’s Heroes rallied around her to help encourage people to get swabbed and join the bone marrow registry.

Over the past few years, Hallie has partnered with multiple local law enforcement agencies. Hallie’s Heroes have arranged for more than 6,000 people to be tested with a painless cheek swab and that has resulted in 53 matches.

In August, Hallie learned of her own possible match. There were a lot of details to work out but things are now moving fast. She started chemo Tuesday and her transplant is set Nov. 1.

She'll spend the next four to six months in the hospital recovering.
