New tollway opens between Arlington and Mansfield

A new stretch of tollway opens Friday in North Texas.

The tollway is along Highway 360 between Interstate 20 in Arlington and Highway 287 and Mansfield.

For the longest time drivers had had to use frontage road going up and down Hwy. 360 but that meant stopping at every single intersection. That is about to change.

The project took decades of planning and for the past two and a half years the Texas Department of Transportation has been working on the nearly 10-mile stretch of toll road.

It was a $300 million partnership between TxDOT, the North Texas Tollway Authority, the cities of Grand Prairie and Mansfield, as well as Tarrant, Ellis and Johnson counties.

It's estimated that by 2030, 174,000 drivers will use the corridor every day. The NTTA will manage it now that it's complete. Drivers with a toll tag will pay $1.62 to travel the entire length of it.

The 360 Tollway will also be named after civil rights icon Rosa Parks and a longtime Senator Chris Harris. Members of both families are expected to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
