New details in 15-year-old's murder

Garland Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 15-year-old at a popular teen hangout Friday afternoon.

Police say Miguel Esquivel of Dallas was shot in the head during a fight, while dozens of teens were at Embree Park.

"It appears that a fight broke out one of the subjects in the crowd pulled a gun and began firing at all the kids that were out there," said Lt. Pedro Barineau.

A neighbor who says he witnessed some of what happened says one of the groups was already in their cars and leaving the park when the gunfire broke out.

Joe Garcia’s house backs up to the park. He heard the fighting and then the gunshots. Police say they’ve received reports of as many as seven shots.

"I was just trying to help them out to get him in another truck and get him to the hospital,” he said.

Garcia says the 15-year-old was in the backseat of the pickup and was hit by a shot through the back windshield. Garcia also says this isn’t the first time there has been trouble in that park.

“There's different groups that come in and start fighting and rumbling. This time took out of proportion, a kid ended up being killed I mean they took his life.”

Police do not believe the 15-year-old was involved in the fight. Investigators don’t think it’s gang related. They have not released any information about the suspects but say they are working leads.
