Multiple people shot in DeSoto business parking lot

At least one person was killed and several others were injured in a shooting at a local business parking lot early Wednesday morning, according to the DeSoto Police Department.

What we know:

DeSoto police responded to a shooting call near the corner of North Hampton and East Pleasant Run roads around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Officers found several victims in the parking lot of a shopping center. Paramedics rendered aid at the scene before transporting multiple individuals to a nearby hospital for treatment.

One of the victims, 20-year-old Kyeler Hunter, died from his injuries.

What they're saying:

FOX 4 saw several people going in and out of Krab King Seafood, which is located at one end of the plaza. The owner declined to comment.

However, two other people who work nearby talked about what happened.

"That was really scary just to know that somebody in this parking lot that we come to work in everyday, that somebody had been harmed like that. You don’t want to see anyone get hurt," Lenora Johnson said. 

"Oh my god, that hurts, hits close to home. Someone that young passed away and being this close," added Jeffery Johnson, who owns a vacuum cleaner company nearby. "

What we don't know:

At this point, it’s still unclear how many people were shot.

There’s also no word from police on a motive or a suspect.

No arrests have been made, but police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
