Missing toddler drowns in small Dallas apartment pond

A toddler drowned in a decorative fountain at a far northeast Dallas apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

Police said a relative was caring for 22-month-old Christian Harris while his mother is out of town, but around 4 a.m. Tuesday she realized he was missing.

Officers and neighbors began searching for the boy and found him face down in the water outside the Chimney Hill Apartments office. The complex is across the street from where the boy was staying.

Police said officers jumped in to save the boy and gave him CPR and he was taken to Medical City Dallas in critical condition. He died Tuesday afternoon from his injuries.

Police said they do not anticipate filing any charges.
