Man who allegedly shot father arrested in Arlington
ARLINGTON, Texas - A standoff in Arlington ended Tuesday afternoon after police arrested a man who allegedly shot his father.
SWAT officers surrounded the home in the 4800 block of Abbott Avenue, which is just east of the municipal airport and south of Interstate 20, shortly after the shooting happened at 9 a.m.
The victim said his 21-year-old son shot him multiple times. He ran to a neighbor’s house for help and was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.
Officers in an armored vehicle sat outside the home for several hours while trying to determine if the suspect was still inside.
“The last thing we want to do is just go in and try and find him. So, we’re gonna wait at the least for a couple of hours and try and coax him outside and try to speak to them and find out what happened,” said Lt. Chris Cook with the Arlington Police Department.
The officers finally forced their way into the home around 12:40 p.m. and took the suspect into custody. He was not hurt.
The victim’s neighbor told FOX 4 the family had a history of domestic violence. He believes the son was arrested earlier this month because of another fight with his father.
Two nearby daycares were put on lockdown and police evacuated several neighbors during the standoff as a precaution.
