Fatal Garland grocery store stabbing
What we know:
Juan Pedro Reyes, of Garland, surrendered to authorities following a public appeal for information. He is currently being held at the Garland Detention Center in connection with the death of 39-year-old Franky Seleyma Arredondo Barrios. As of Saturday, no bond has been set.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on March 27 at a grocery store in the 2900 block of South First Street. According to investigators, Arredondo Barrios was inside the business shopping for groceries when he was stabbed by a suspect.
Officers arriving at the scene found Arredondo Barrios suffering from a stab wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing a black beanie, black hoodie-style sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black shoes.
Detectives used surveillance footage to identify a person of interest seen leaving the store after the attack. On Friday night, the department released a description and a photo of a man in a black beanie and hoodie, asking for the public’s help.
The move proved effective, as Reyes turned himself in shortly after the identification was made public.
"Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident," the Garland Police Department said in a statement. "They are working to determine why the victim was targeted."
What you can do:
Investigators believe several people were in the store or the parking lot at the time of the stabbing. They are seeking to speak with anyone who may have seen the suspect arrive, leave, or interact with anyone nearby.
