Lawmakers discuss Texas Dream Act repeal

State senate Republicans want to repeal a law that offers in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

A senate subcommittee will meet Monday to discuss the issue.

Texas Democrats and Hispanic advocacy groups vow to defend the law.

It was approved by the legislature and signed by then Gov. Rick Perry in 2001.

Many conservatives say the law encourages people from Mexico and Central America to sneak across the border.
