Johnny Manziel returns to court for assault case
DALLAS - Former Texas A&M and NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel was back in a Dallas County courtroom Tuesday to check in with the judge overseeing his misdemeanor assault case.
Manziel signed an agreement with prosecutors in November. The charges against him were dismissed on the condition that he complete an anger management course, attend a domestic violence victim impact panel, comply with the NFL’s policy on substance abuse and have no contact with the ex-girlfriend who accused him of assault.
The judge said during the hearing that he had concerns progress was not being made. He questioned whether Maziel was serious because he missed a deadline and there were reports that he partied at the same Miami nightclub as his ex-girlfriend on New Year’s Eve.
The judge lectured Manziel about wasting opportunities. But the former football star assured him he is trying to get his life in order and will follow through with the requirements of the deal.
After speaking with both sides, the judge acknowledged that Manziel seems to be on the right track.
