Icy roads caused wrecks and backups around North Texas on New Year’s Eve.

Traffic had to be diverted for a time Sunday afternoon on I-20 at Belt Line Rd. headed toward Ft. Worth.

Wind chills dropped to about 10 degrees and ice was on some overpasses, but weather didn’t affect midnight fireworks plans at Reunion Tower.

Iowa resident Paul Hike called it a day after driving in from Houston, where rain had turned to ice.

“We drive in 12 inches of snow with a 4-wheel driver you never have a problem.  And here we are here, they're driving 70 miles an hour and there's ice on the roads and nobody knows how to steer. It’s horrible." he said.
