House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Fort Worth school

One of the most powerful women in the nation praised the work of young women Monday in Fort Worth.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the Young Women's Leadership Academy to applaud the school's success in inspiring young diverse leaders in North Texas. She was joined by U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Fort Worth) and principal of the Young Women's Leadership Academy, Tamara Albury.

Students took the opportunity to ask one of the most powerful women in America how they can follow in her footsteps. The speaker urged them to blaze their own path and take advantage of their natural abilities.

“See everything as an opportunity. Somebody challenges you, you see it as an opportunity to show the confidence that you have. I know you'll do well,” Pelosi said.

The Young Women's Leadership Academy focuses on empowering its students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Speaker Pelosi said she was especially impressed with the school's 100 percent graduation rate.
