A man died after being swept into a flood retention pond in Denton.

The man was one of three people living in a drainage tunnel behind a shopping center on University Drive, east of Interstate 35.

His two friends escaped the sudden rush of water that followed Sunday evening’s heavy rain. But the man was carried into a nearby retention pond as it filled with water.

Divers found the still unidentified man’s body around midnight, three hours after it happened.
