High-speed chase through Dallas ends with 2 arrests
DALLAS - Garland police and Dallas County sheriff’s deputies chased suspects in a stolen vehicle Friday morning through Garland and Dallas.
The 45-minute pursuit started in Garland around 8:15 a.m. Police said the license plate on the vehicle came back as stolen so officers tried to pull it over. The white car took off at a high speed and weaved its way through Garland and southeast Dallas.
Police said the wild woman behind the wheel was Vanessa Hummel, 32, of Carrolton. She and two passengers evaded police for nearly an hour. She ran through stop signs and school zones.
The chase ended near the intersection of Live Oak Street and Haskell Avenues in Downtown Dallas. The vehicle suddenly pulled over and three people got out with their hands up. Police said the car had run out of gas.
Hummel, in the pink shirt, was pulled to the ground and seconds later the front passenger was too.
"It turns out that the vehicle may be stolen out of a rental car company,” said Lt. Pedro Barineau, Garland police.
The man riding shotgun was a career criminal, Fernando Aguilar, 26, of Garland. He was arrested for possession of marijuana.
The man in the back seat who surrendered first was set free. Police said they had no charges to stick on him. He didn't stick around for interviews, he took off running.
Evidence of identity thefts and numerous items stolen from homes in and around the Garland area were found in the vehicle.
Police said they were investigating to see if the people arrested were connected to other crimes in North Texas.
