A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody after Haltom City police say he brought a pellet gun on campus on the first day of school.

Police say a Haltom High School student told a resource officer he saw a student with a gun Monday morning. The resource officer immediately called police and were able to arrest the 15-year-old without incident.

Police say they found a pellet gun on his waistband, but said it looked very realistic and resembled a Beretta style hand gun.

The 15-year-old was taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police believe the student brought the pellet gun to school for his own personal protection.

Haltom City police say more charges could be pending.
