Frisco family's home threatened by landslide

FRISCO, Texas - A family in Frisco says they are fed up with their dangerous backyard.

Natalie and Brian Woodward said several months ago they noticed the greenspace behind their property line starting to collapse.

They immediately contacted their homeowner’s association, assuming it was their problem. But according to Denton County property records, the parcel of land is still owned by the builder, Shaddock Developers.

An attorney representing the HOA sent Shaddock's attorney a letter in October. It says in part, "This letter is a formal request by the Lone Star Ranch Homeowner's Association that Shaddock undertake efforts to repair the slope failure as soon as possible."

But nothing has been done since then.

"I feel like we're stuck in the middle as homeowners with our land in jeopardy,” Natalie said.

The couple spent an extra $10,000 to build their dream home next to a pond. Now they’re children are unable to play in their backyard unsupervised and they’re worried about what could happen to the house if the land continues to fall.

They’ve taken their complaints to the city.

The lackluster response prompted the city of Frisco’s Code Compliance Office to issue Shaddock a notice of violations on Dec. 30. It gave the developer until last Friday to take action.

The area hasn’t been touched so the Woodwards have started covering the holes in their yard with whatever they can find.

“Please just help. This has turned into such an ordeal,” Brian said.

Shaddock’s attorney told FOX 4 he and his client were unaware of the issue. He claims he never received the notification from the HOA and or the violation notice from the city of Frisco. He promised to look into the issue.

The Woodwards will take their case to a city council meeting Tuesday.
