Several vehicles caught on fire on Thursday morning after colliding in the eastbound lanes of Highway 80 in Kaufman County, east of Forney.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas - One person was killed, and two others were injured in a fiery crash on Highway 80 in Kaufman County on Thursday morning.
What we know:
The accident happened around 8 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Helms Trail, which is east of Forney.
According to early reports, several vehicles were involved, including an 18-wheeler, a pickup truck towing a trailer, a van, and a sedan.
Images from SKY 4 showed an 18-wheeler that had collided head-on with a sedan on the service road. The pickup truck was on its side in the center median and the van had damage to its rear side panel.
Several of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the crash.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed at least one person died. Two others were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and a fourth victim was treated at the scene.
What we don't know:
Officials haven't yet identified the victim or said which vehicle they were in.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Big picture view:
Both the highway and the service road were shut down on Thursday morning for the accident investigation. The main lanes of the highway reopened around 2 p.m.
The service road is expected to be closed for another two hours for the cleanup.
