Family wants answers after light pole falls, kills Tollway driver
The family of a Lewisville man killed over the weekend on the Dallas North Tollway is searching for answers about the multi-car crash that caused his death.
DPS troopers said on Saturday night a northbound vehicle swerved off the road, crashing into a light pole causing it to land on top of Ammar Zaidi's Subaru. Several other cars crashed, as well.
Investigators said it's still too soon to say why the initial car veered off the road.
What is clear -- the pole came out of nowhere for Zaidi and gave him no time to react.
“I think if he could talk to us right now he would say that he's so happy that he's the only person who was hurt,” said Rubab Zaidi, Ammar's sister. “He would say learn from this and make sure it doesn't happen to anybody else.”
The North Texas Tollway Authority said it complies with state and federal guidelines which have breakaway standards for light poles secured to the ground.
There have been no arrests in the case.
