Families scramble after Dallas special events center unexpectedly closes

Some North Texans are now scrambling to find new venues for their celebrations after a venue unexpectedly closed.

The Fiesta Event center in Dallas closed its doors without any notice after it was evicted and the property foreclosed on.

Melissa Montalvo was supposed to have a party for her daughter's quinceañera, but now she’s out in the cold and doesn’t have the $2,500 she paid up front to the center.

“We've been planning this for a year and then just to find out first you don't have a place to have your daughter's party and then on top of that you're out your money – basically, it feels horrible,” Montalvo said.

Montalvo said she became suspicious New Year's Eve when she saw signs from nearby businesses coming down. She said she was initially able to track down the owner, who appeared helpful at first. But she said they stopped taking calls and returning texts Monday.

When Montalvo went to the site Wednesday to talk to someone there was a notice on the door and no sign.

“It’s like, a ghost town. Like it never existed or something,” Montalvo said.

Melissa said she's spent roughly $9,000 total on the quinceañera. But with no venue and no money to book another place she’s not sure what to do next.

“I feel all of the above – vulnerable, tricked, robbed.”
