Ellis County kidnapping suspect arrested after standoff in Dallas
DALLAS - A kidnapping suspect from Ellis County who barricaded himself inside an apartment with a child is now in police custody.
The standoff happened Wednesday morning in the 3800 block of S. Walton Walker Boulevard in Oak Cliff. Video from SKY 4 showed dozens of police cars and SWAT officers outside the building.
Ellis County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Joe Fitzgerald said the suspect was wanted for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend Tuesday night at the Galaxy Drive-In in Ennis. He later dropped her off at her mother’s house in Dallas.
The sheriff’s office used the suspect’s cellphone to locate him at the apartment complex in Oak Cliff. It’s where his current girlfriend lives, Fitzgerald said.
Dallas police officers were helping to arrest him on a kidnapping charge when he locked the door and refused to come out. SWAT officers eventually used a flash grenade and made their way inside.
Police said the suspect’s own child was in the apartment with him. After he was taken into custody a woman and a child were brought out to safety.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
