Elderly Fort Worth robbery victim passes away
FORT WORTH, Texas - The elderly Fort Worth resident who received an outpouring of support from the community after being robbed five times in six months has died.
John McAnally was an 86-year-old Korean War veteran who made headlines in September. The Fort Worth Police Department presented him with a $100 gift card as part of a campaign to help randomly selected needy citizens.
He had been robbed in his home five times in six months. In one case the thieves got violent.
"They come in my house through here and they robbed me,” he told FOX 4. “They pushed me over and took money out of my pocket…I had to replace everything ‘cause they busted the sidings.”
His story touched the hearts of many people in the community who ended up wrapping their arms around him in his final days.
“Mr. McAnally and I have become buds. So, as long as I bring him his coffee in the morning he’s good to go,” said Linda Hastings.
She and other volunteers from the Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth helped him by bringing him groceries and providing him medical care. They spent several days in October cleaning, repairing and rewiring his home.
McAnally passed away Monday night from ongoing health issues.
