DISD board members force meeting about Miles with lawsuit
Three Dallas ISD trustees won their legal fight to force the board to discuss the future of Superintendent Mike Miles and possibly take action on his job.
The judge ordered a special meeting for 4 p.m. Friday.
DISD school board members Bernadette Nutall, Elizabeth Jones and Joyce Foreman sued board president Miguel Solis.
The trustees claimed Solis violated school board policy by denying their requests to discuss the performance of Miles. District policy states Solis must add an item to a meeting agenda within 60 days if the request comes from three board members.
Attorneys for Solis argued the matter was not up to the court to decide, rather a board decision, and Solis exercised his discretion interpreting the policy.
Miles' performance would have been discussed at the May 14 meeting if the suit had failed, after Election Day. Several seats are up for grabs, including Nutall's, who has been outspoken against miles.
The plaintiffs argued they wanted the chance for their constituents to know where they stand on the superintendent's future should it come down to a vote.
