DeSoto ISD suspends Superintendent David Harris

The school board in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto suspended its superintendent and launched an investigation into his actions. It did not explain why.

In a special meeting Monday night, board members voted unanimously to put Dr. David Harris on paid suspension.

The suspension reportedly involves the controversial departure of the popular head football coach, Todd Peterman, who resigned last month.

And another controversy embarrassed the school and the community – a fight between DeSoto’s basketball team and rival Duncanville. The University Interscholastic League put both schools on probation.

Some parents believe the district is out of control and needs to refocus on academics.

"We have no discipline in the school we have no discipline with the athletic program the discipline is terrible here and so I think it starts here with the head, with the school board it's terrible," Jeffrey Booker said.

A district spokesperson said the special meeting was a routine annual review of the superintendent. The board said it was scheduled on the holiday to avoid a conflict with the upcoming spring break.
