Dealey Plaza closed for JFK miniseries filming

Dealey Plaza in Downtown Dallas will be closed this week for the filming of a miniseries about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The plaza will be closed Tuesday through Thursday, with several all-day street closures in the areas around Elm and Main streets on the west side of downtown.

Hulu's adaptation of Stephen King's '11/22/63' stars James Franco as a high school teacher who time-travels to Dallas to stop Lee Harvey Oswald from killing the president.

Drivers on Tuesday weren't prepared, though, for the massive backups throughout downtown.

"What the hell is going on with all this damn traffic," one woman yelled out her car to a FOX4 camera.

One worker said the backups made it hard to do his job.

"All these people right here, we're all trying to make a living for our families and we can't get to the next sales call, the next opportunity," said James Micheleti. "I've been sitting for 15 minutes."

Others were happy to see a slice of Hollywood in downtown. Crowds gathered along barricades setup taking photos while actors in 1960s clothing walked around the plaza. Some even hoped to catch a glimpse of Franco.

"He said he was chilling at the Dealey Plaza, so I'm here to see him," said Muneerah Yusefali.

Dallas police said additional officers would be used on Wednesday and Thursday to help with traffic control in downtown.
