Disagreement between romantic rivals leads to deadly southeast Oak Cliff shooting

The man accused of fatally shooting another man in southeast Oak Cliff over the weekend allegedly did so after his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend threw a drink at the side of his car.

The backstory:

Dallas police were called to a shooting on S. Lancaster Road, near Simpson Stuart Road, shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Officers found 23-year-old Donald Daniels had been shot at the location.

Daniels was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Police said the suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Jarvis Boyd, called 911 and turned himself in to police.

Boyd is charged with murder.

A murder suspect turned himself in to police after a deadly shooting in southeast Oak Cliff on Sunday.

What's new:

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Daniels and his girlfriend were at the location to watch a rap performance.

At some point, Daniels’ girlfriend texted Boyd and asked him to come over. Boyd and the woman had been in a romantic relationship in the past.

Boyd told investigators that he didn’t realize Daniels was there until he arrived. He could tell that Daniels was upset, so he decided to leave.

Boyd said he was preparing to leave when Daniels approached his car and threw a drink at it.

Boyd grabbed a handgun and shot Daniels through the open driver’s side window, striking him in the chest.

Police said Daniels was not armed at the time.

Boyd was booked into the Dallas County jail and will face charges for murder.
