Dallas homeless shelter prepares 100 turkeys
Nearly 100 turkeys took a trip to the fryer Wednesday at Dallas Life homeless shelter.
Dallas Life always provides a Thanksgiving meal, but for the second year in a row it partnered with country music star Tracy Lawrence to host the turkey fry. Around 200 volunteers came out to help.
The shelter is also honoring first responders this year by giving out about half of the turkeys to the men and women of the Dallas Police Department.
"We wanted to say thank you to those who take care of us on the streets each and every day so at shift change today we'll take 50 fired turkeys over to the police department, they'll each take a turkey home to their families and that gives us a great feeling,” said Bob Sweeney, executive director.
The rest of the food that was prepared Wednesday will provide meals for folks on Thanksgiving and into the weekend.
