Daisy's leg amputated because of crash injuries

A dog that was found nearly one week after running away from a car crash is recovering from surgery.

Veterinarians at the Summertree Animal and Bird Clinic determined Daisy’s leg was too damaged to heal properly. It had to be amputated.

“There was extensive trauma to the musculature surrounding Daisy's femur and pelvis. Amputation was definitely the way to go once I got in there. There was no way that any of her bones were going to be able to be put back together. It was a very extensive surgery but Daisy did great. She is awake but on a lot of pain medications,” Dr. Sable Murry told the Mutts and Mayhem, the rescue group that is caring for Daisy.

The 11-month-old Labrador went missing after a terrible accident last Tuesday on the President George Bush Turnpike near Highway 75. Her owners were injured and couldn’t search for her.

Volunteers with Mutts and Mayhem found Daisy Sunday hiding in some brush not far away from where it happened.
