Companies looking to make holiday hires at Dallas job fair

Big companies in Dallas are looking to make a large number of hires this week.

The You're Hired Job Fair happens Thursday at the Sheraton in downtown Dallas. It’s called that because a handful of companies are looking to do just that -- hire on the spot.

FedEx, UPS, Walmart and Amazon are the four major companies looking to hire people for holiday help. Some of the jobs could roll over into full time work.

UPS turned to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins to help with hires, as the shipping company needs to fill 1,700 positions.

“They're all good money jobs. There's a job to be like an Uber driver for UPS packages that pays $18.75 an hour to use your own car and then you get 53 cents a mile,” Jenkins said. “They bring you a group of packages and you put that in your car, drive around and deliver those in your neighborhood.”

All of the companies are looking to hire people in the distribution facilities and for delivery positions. Jenkins said the companies hope to start the new seasonal and other workers next Monday.

The fair starts at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the downtown Dallas Sheraton hotel.
