Cleburne officer offers 'protection from predators' seminar for parents

Parents at a seminar in Alrington were shown the reality of the sordid world of online predators looking for vulnerable children.

Those who attended witnessed a convicted sex offender call, who he thought was, a 14-year-old girl on skype. That's when he learned he was really talking to a police officer

It's one thing for Corporal Bryan Proctor to tell parents they need to be careful what their kids do on the internet. But for once, the veteran law enforcement officer wanted to go one step further and show them.

Richard Borisenko, along with 20 other parents, was stunned as they watched how quickly Cleburne Police Corporal Bryan Proctor who was posing as a 14-year-old girl in a chat room was solicited by men on the Internet.

"These guys are anywhere from 30 to 65 years old were looking for 14 to 15 year-old girls,” said Borisenko. “And in the two-hour span we were in that class, we were hit 154 times."

"And that's what we were trying to show is, ‘Hey parents, this is what your child is exposed to,’” said Proctor.

Many explicit comments too graphic to share came in just minutes after the fake profile of a girl was posted.

"We had dozens of private messages to our inbox saying they want to come pick us up, they like how we look and worse. Way way way worse,” explained Proctor.

It didn't take long for one of the men online to initiate a Skype call, which Proctor and his wife accepted. She did the talking.

“I can’t see you,” Proctor’s wife said to the man on Skype.

“I can’t see you either,” the online man replied. “I think you need to point the camera down."

But instead of a 14-year-old girl, the man on the other end saw the people in Proctor’s seminar.

“Before you hang up, I'm recording everything,” Proctor told the man online. “I've got the chat. I've got you. I've got everything. I'm going to ask some questions."

For seven minutes, the man answered those questions Since he was not arrested or charged with a crime for the Skype call, FOX 4 is not using his name or showing his face.

"Why are you contacting her if she's 14 years old?” Proctor asked the man on Skype.

“It was just talk. I wasn't going to do anything,” the man replied.

"Why would you contact her at all then? I'm just trying to understand,” asked Proctor.

“Just to contact. I've never done anything like that and I never would,” the man online replied.

Proctor later discovered the man was a registered sex offender living in the metroplex.

"Internet's a scary place,” said Proctor. “If I had a daughter I wouldn't want her anywhere near it."

By the end of the forum, some parents were literally in tears.

"These guys online want to be the daddy figure,” said Borisenko. “But that's not really what they want to do."

Proctor, who also owns a firearms training business, offered the forum to parents for free.
