Blue Bell returns to store shelves

Blue Bell ice cream made its comeback Monday.

Stores in Austin and Houston got early morning shipments and some customers were there to buy ice cream as early as 4:30 a.m.

“It’s for after school, but we may dip into it this morning. We’ve been waiting for this all summer” said Sandra Vega, a shopper at a Houston-area Kroger store. “We have boycotted. So we haven’t had any ice cream. We’ve been waiting specifically for Blue Bell.”

For now, only half gallons containers are available in four flavors: Homemade Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Cookies and Cream and The Great Divide. It is not yet clear when other flavors will return.

However, Blue Bell said it would deliver daily if necessary to keep store shelves stocked.

North Texas is part of Phase II in the rollout, which is expected to be in about two to four weeks.
