Texas police search for gunman in fatal night shooting
Arlington police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a 54-year-old man in his pickup truck Friday night before fleeing the scene in another vehicle.
ARLINGTON, Texas - A gunman who fatally shot a 54-year-old man while he was driving near Arlington Highlands remains on the run more than 24 hours after the shooting, police said.
What we know:
Arlington police responded around 8:43 p.m. Friday to reports of multiple gunshots near the intersection of Highlander Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just north of Interstate 20 and across from the Arlington Highlands shopping and entertainment district.
When officers arrived, they found a pickup truck that had left the roadway and come to rest in a grassy area near the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was unresponsive and had multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said witnesses saw the driver of another vehicle fire multiple shots at the victim before fleeing westbound on Highlander Boulevard. Police have not released a description of the suspect vehicle, and no arrests have been made.
Authorities said they are pursuing several leads but have not identified a suspect.
What they're saying:
Lac Hong, manager of Eva Nail Spa, said he did not hear the gunfire but witnessed the large police response from his business across the street.
"I was waiting for the last customer to finish up. I looked out the window and saw a lot of police cars, sirens, ambulances," Hong said. "I've never seen that many cops before in my life."
Hong said surveillance cameras at the business captured the victim's pickup truck slowly traveling north on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive before crossing Highlander Boulevard and rolling into a grassy area.
"Some people came out here, a truck was on the grass, and later on a police car came down here really fast," Hong said.
He said he was surprised by the violence in an area he considers safe.
"It was sad to hear that, terrible, this is a safe area," Hong said.
An Arlington police spokesperson said investigators have not determined a motive but do not believe the shooting was the result of road rage.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to identify the victim after next of kin have been notified.
