Amber Alert canceled after missing baby dropped off at police station

LAKE WORTH, Texas - The Lake Worth police chief believes a 6-month-old baby is safe thanks to two women who stepped up and did the right thing.

Chief Corry Blount said on Tuesday night little Aryana Creech’s mother got into an argument with 29-year-old David Derleth at a Lake Worth gas station. He took off in her car with the baby. Police said he turned off his phone and no one could locate him.

Derleth is not the baby's father but is an acquaintance of her mother. An Amber Alert was issued around 2 a.m. Wednesday because at that point police believed the child was in danger.

A few hours later two women took the baby to a Fort Worth Police Department substation near Meacham Airport. She appeared to be okay but was taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

Chief Blount said apparently Derleth took the baby home and the women who know him figured out something was not right. They took the baby from him.

He allegedly took off in the car and tried to get away. Fort Worth police officers spotted him and took him into custody a short time later.

Derleth has a long history of drug-related arrest. He’s now facing charges for kidnapping, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and he already had a felony narcotics warrant out of Tarrant County.

Police said they don’t know the exact relationship between Derleth and the baby’s mother.

Child Protective Services is now involved in the case.
