17-year-old arrested for teen's murder in Garland

The person who allegedly shot a 15-year-old boy in the head in Garland has turned himself in.

Garland police said 17-year-old Scott Litton voluntarily talked to detectives and was arrested. He’s now charged with murder and is being held in the Garland Detention Center.

The fatal shooting happened Friday afternoon at Embree Park, which is a popular hangout for teens. Police believe a fight broke out between groups of teens.

"It appears that a fight broke out one of the subjects in the crowd pulled a gun and began firing at all the kids that were out there," said Lt. Pedro Barineau.

One of the bullets hit 15-year-old Miguel Esquivel of Dallas in the head. He was in the backseat of a pickup truck trying to leave and was shot through the back windshield.

Police do not believe Esquivel was involved in the fight or that it was gang-related. They’re still asking for anyone with information to call 972-205-1667.

Litton’s bond was set at $500,000.
