Today is Red Cross Giving Day
DALLAS - With recent flooding, hundreds of families across the state have found themselves in need of help. And the American Red Cross always steps in. Thursday is National Red Cross Giving Day, the opportunity for everyone else to do their part.
The Red Cross responds to an average of five disasters per day just in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Anita Foster, a spokeswoman for the local chapter, said no gift is too small.
“We translate those dollars into immediate emergency actions. We have shelters open right now. About 300 people slept on a cot last night in a Red Cross shelter in Texas alone. And so we’re able to have cots, blankets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, a comb for your hair, food for you and your children every single day during an emergency. And it’s financial gifts that make that happen,” she said.
There are also more than a dozen North Texas Red Cross employees who traveled south and are working in the Houston area to help residents there recover from the devastating flood waters.
