Summer Drink Makeover
Some of your favorite cocktails and summer drinks may have too much sugar in them. Dr. Felicia Stoler, a registered dietitian and author of the book "Living Skinny in Fat Genes," shows you how to make them healthier.
Sweet Tea
Fresh brewed tea
Sweeten to taste with stevia
Lemonade (sugar free)
1 ¾ cups chilled water
4 Tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)
1 Tbsp (1 packet) of Pyure
Mix Well
Cucumber Mint Cooler
½ cup fresh mint leaves
10 lemon rind strips, divided
2 ½ cups fresh cucumber juice
5 tablespoons lemon juice
1 ⅔ cups club soda
To get fresh cucumber juice without a juicer, simply peel the cucumbers, puree them in a blender, transfer the puree to a fine mesh placed over a large measuring cup, then gently press with the back of a spoon to extract the liquid. Using a mortar & pestle, grind the mint leaves. Add to a pitcher with the ingredients above. Serve chilled with ice.
Fruit Infused Water (great for kids)
Flat or sparkling water
Muddled berries of your choice
Liquid Stevia to taste
Simple Syrup
2 cups water
1/4 cup liquid Stevia
unsweetened pomegranate juice instead of Grenadine (also sweeten the juice up a bit with Stevia)
