Reports: Chad Morris tells team he will stay at SMU
SMU head coach Chad Morris reportedly told Mustangs players he isn’t leaving for the open job at Baylor, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday.
Representatives for Morris and Baylor have reportedly been talking about the second-year head coach leaving the Hilltop for a multi-million dollar contract as Baylor’s head coach.
But SMU and Baylor Rivals.com sites and Waco TV station WCEN reported Tuesday afternoon that Morris spoke at an SMU team meeting and informed the players he would be staying in University Park.
The Mustangs finished 5-7 in 2016, just one win shy of bowl eligibility. Morris is 7-17 overall in his two seasons at SMU.
Baylor’s interim head coach, Jim Grobe, said he has no plans to return as Baylor head coach. The program has been in a spiral since numerous allegations of sexual assault were reported over the past year. The scandal cost head coach Art Briles his job, along with Baylor’s athletic director and the school’s president.
Baylor’s final game of 2016 is this Saturday against West Virginia. Baylor is currently 6-5.
