Brother of Mavericks player Devin Harris dies after wreck on Central Expressway

The brother of Mavericks player Devin Harris died after a car crash on Central Expressway during the overnight hours early Thursday.

Bruce Harris, 38, died at the hospital after another vehicle crashed into his disabled car and ignited a fire about 1:30 a.m. Thursday near the Walnut Hill exit.

Dallas police said Bruce Harris and another man were in their disabled vehicle on northbound 75 when a sedan rear-ended the car. That caused the gas tank of Harris’ vehicle to rupture and catch fire.

Police said Harris and his passenger along with the two people in the sedan were all transported to nearby Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Harris died from his injuries midday Thursday.

The Mavericks said Devin Harris was excused from Thursday’s practice because of the wreck. Harris and the Mavericks began their season Wednesday night with a loss to the Atlanta Hawks at the American Airlines Center. Dallas has its second game on Friday night at the AAC vs the Sacramento Kings.
