White Settlement City Council votes to let Browser stay at library

The most famous cat in the Fort Worth suburb of White Settlement will be allowed to continue living in the city library.

Disagreement over where the library's feline mascot, Browser, should live thrust the town into the national spotlight.

The city council voted last month to have Browser relocated due to concerns about allergies. But that decision turned into something of a public relations ‘cat-astrophe’ for the city.

Browser has been a fixture at the White Settlement Public Library since he was rescued from the pound six years ago. The council reversed its decision Friday afternoon to a room full of cheers.

"They've got a separate room that they can go to. Browser has his own little area,” said Brower supporter Mina Carpenter. “I've gone lots of times to the library and I've never seen Browser. I didn't even know Browser was there until all this came up."

An online petition for Browser to stay at the library garnered more than 12,000 signatures since the council's original decision.
