There’s a big water main break that has closed schools and is causing problems in the city of Kaufman.

The city, which is about 30 miles east of Dallas, said a 12-inch water line broke around 9 p.m. Monday night. Water services have been at a minimum throughout the city since then.

Pictures provided by the city show the extent of the damage along Fair Street.

The city is asking residents and businesses to cut their water usage as repairs on the line continue.

Kaufman ISD cancelled school because it said several campuses are without water. The school district said classes and semester exams will resume Wednesday. But, there will not be an early release as planned.

The city hopes full services will be restored later this morning.
