VIDEO: Trooper pulls man from burning car in Plano
PLANO, Texas - Newly released body camera video shows what happened after a state trooper spotted a burning car in Plano.
The backstory:
The crash happened on Jan. 9 on the Dallas North Tollway near the intersection of Spring Creek Road.
Trooper Cody Durham said he saw smoke on the opposite side of the roadway. He took the next exit and made his way back to a wrecked car that was on fire.
Trooper Durham ran in and pulled the driver out through the back door.

"Help me," the driver pleads.
"I’m trying to. Come here," the trooper says in the video.
Durham said he just kept pulling and pulling until he was able to get the man out of the car. He then dragged him onto the shoulder and as far away from the car as possible.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived shortly after and took the driver to the hospital.

What they're saying:
Durham said running towards the danger is just part of the job.
"We’re out there every day putting our lives in danger, putting our lives on the line to try to save somebody that’s in danger, whatever situation they are in for someone that we don’t know who they are and for someone that we may never see again," he said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said Durham was also taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.

Before officers arrived, two Good Samaritans stepped in to save the day.
What we don't know:
There’s no word on the driver’s condition.
But based on the video, his fate could have been much worse if Trooper Durham hadn’t arrived when he did.
