Third grader diagnosed with leukemia returns to Travis Elementary

ENNIS, Texas - A North Texas student battling leukemia received a special welcome back thanks to his classmates and teachers.

John Cuellar is a third grader at Travis Elementary School in Ennis, southeast of Dallas. He was diagnosed with leukemia almost a year ago and hasn’t been able to attend school since the second grade.

On Monday his classmates and teachers welcomed him back in style – with streamers, banners and cheers.

“They all got lines of like some kind of string and I ran through it,” he said.

John’s mom said he is in remission. He’s looking forward to continuing his education and growing up to be a police officer or veterinarian.
