The Cowtown full and ultra marathon called off due to street safety

A decision has been made on this year's Cowtown Marathon.

Due to inclement weather, The Cowtown Marathon (26.2 miles) and the Ultra Marathon (50K) have been canceled tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, 2015.

The Half Marathon (13.1 mile) will be run beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The following is information marathon officials sent out regarding the announcement Saturday afternoon:

The Cowtown deeply regrets that we cannot conduct the full and ultra-marathons as planned, but invite all Sunday registered runners to join the half marathon at 8:00 a.m. No bib or registration changes are required. There is no Sunday race registration.

Participants should use extreme caution in traveling to Will Rogers Memorial Center tomorrow. The Harley Street and Farrington Field parking lots are currently ice-covered and may not be cleared by Sunday morning.

Event organizers, working with the City of Fort Worth and the National Weather Service, have carefully evaluated all race courses and have determined that only the Half Marathon course will be ready for the 8:00 a.m. start from Will Rogers Memorial Center.

The full and ultra-marathon courses take in a considerable amount of secondary streets in shaded neighborhoods and the Trinity Trail, which will not be passable for runners by Sunday race time.

"The safety of Cowtown runners, volunteers and spectators is our top priority. The Texas weather is challenging all of us this weekend. We are so grateful to the thousands of runners, volunteers, supporters and local officials who regularly participate in our event. Their dedication, patience and flexibility in times like these are invaluable. We are especially grateful for the support of the City of Fort Worth for without them The Cowtown would not be possible." said Heidi Swartz, Cowtown Executive Director.
