Texas Sen. Ted Cruz may vote against healthcare bill
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is the latest to say he may vote against the Republican plan to repeal parts of Obamacare.
“So look, right now they don’t have my vote. And I don’t think they have Mile Lee’s either,” Cruz said.
Lee is another conservative Republican from Utah.
Under Senate budget rules, there is a deadline at the end of this week to pass something with only 50 votes. After that, Republicans would need the help of Democrats to reach 60 votes. That’s highly unlikely.
The White House is urging members of the majority party to get on board and singled out one from Alaska.
“I don’t think there’s significant changes, Chris. We have been continuing to talk to various senators, not just Murkowski but ways to refine the formula. Because what we’re actually doing, as you know, we’re taking dollars out of Washington, D.C. and sending it out to the states,” said Marc Short, the White House director of legislative affairs.
The bill will fail if three Republican senators vote no. So far two are pretty firm no’s.
